JOSH HARTNETT's West End debut in the stage adaptation of RAIN MAN has been delayed. The Hollywood actor was due to begin his stint at the Apollo Theatre in London on Tuesday (02 Sep 08), starring in the new play based on the 1988 Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise film.

But the opening night has now been has been put back 10 days to 19 September because director Terry Johnson insists the play is not quite ready. A spokesman says, "It is a new play so everyone wants it to be perfect. Terry wants to get to grips with everything before we open."

In a statement, producer Nica Burns said: “We are delighted that the first two previews went well to audiences from as far afield as Australia and Los Angeles. However, we lost a week of rehearsal at the beginning of the process. As it is a new play, we are continuing to refine it as is usual. Therefore the press night date has changed, and the only night available in the very full autumn schedule was Friday 19th”.

I think we can preclude Josh Hartnett is set for a successful stage debut. The popular actor was bombarded by adoring fans as she tried to exit the Apollo Theatre via the back door on his opening night of Rain Man. 

After signing autographs for hundreds of waiting ‘people paparazzi’ at the back door, he then sneeked out the front door of the theatre and got in to a waiting taxi with a mystery brown haired woman, most likely his UK agent.

The lights flash on and off at random and Hartnett, at 6ft 3in, folds himself uncomfortably into a plastic chair. He wears jeans, T-shirt and a beanie hat, and still has the heart-throb looks that got him spotted by a talent scout as a teenager. Yet despite more than a decade in the limelight he is supremely uncomfortable being scrutinised.

He says he hates the “fame game”; that he's just a regular guy; that he despises the trappings of celebrity –— yet he's so hemmed in by publicists and minders that he gives every impression of believing himself to be really very famous. The West End producer Nica Burns sits next to him and occasionally answers questions for him. And boy, does he hate being asked about Heath Ledger, who was a friend. “I'm not even going to go there,” he replies, unhappy, when I ask whether he misses him. Subsequent British interviewers, it turns out, are told not to mention Ledger as a result.

Josh needed to invoke his "inner anger" for August, his new film about the stock market, which he stars in and co-produced.

Met up with “30 Days of Night“ star Josh Hartnett this week, who has agreed to make his West End debut in the play “Rain Man.

"Nervous is not the word," he told me, "but I want to set a new challenge to myself as an actor and everyone in Hollywood, no matter what they may say, wants to tread the boards of a famous London theater. I just hope they like me.“

Josh was less keen to reveal if he is still in a relationship. “I just want the world to focus on my acting nothing about my private life matters," he said.

August tells of two brothers who fight to keep their dotcom start-up company afloat in August 2001, one month before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In the clip above, Hartnett looks to be meeting with some of his advisers after his company's stock takes a massive hit and drops below a dollar. Running out of options, he may have to risk a lot more than the money in his wallet to save this puppy. But will he? August originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year before making stops in Seattle, Brooklyn and eventually Manhattan, where it opens on July 11.

Josh is to star in a new West End version of Rain Man - the Oscar-winning film featuring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. The stage adaptation, which will be directed by David Grindley and will open at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue in August, tells the story of a self-centred yuppie car dealer who discovers that he has an autistic-savant brother. Josh is to play the role of Charlie, which was made famous by Cruise, in what will be the actor’s West End debut. British actor Adam Godley will play the role of Raymond - Charlie’s brother.

Nica Burns, who is producing the show, told The Stage: “As you can imagine, we’re very excited. Josh was our first choice for the role from day one. He hasn’t done stage work for a while, because he has been so popular on film. In fact, he has turned down film roles to take this part. I think he and Adam Godley will complement each other wonderfully. They are both very challenging parts but in different ways.” Burns also revealed Hartnett had rejected film roles to take the West End part and said he predicted the Black Dahlia star would complement Godley wonderfully. The actors Demi Moore, Josh Hartnett and Woody Harrelson had great fun on Saturday evening at the Terminus Club in Bucharest, at a private party organised for the crew currently shooting the American production “Bunraku” at the MediaPro Studios in Buftea. The entrance to each room of the club was decorated with banners featuring references to the film, in English: “A great film at a low budget,” “We try to create art,” “A little bit to the left, a little bit to the right…,” “You are fired!” or “Bunraku, action!” The party started at about 01.00, and lead actors Demi Moore, Josh Hartnett and Woody Harrelson were accompanied by Israelite actor Shahar Sorek, Aaron Toney, Japanese actress Emily Kaiho and the Spanish actor Jordi Molla. A significant part of the team came directly from the shooting taking place at the MediaPro Studios in Buftea. During the party, the screens located in the rooms of the club hosted a five-minute film, including a parody of the “Bunraku” plot and funny moments of the making-of. The perfume Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men arrives on the market in August 2008. Its bottle was designed by Giorgio Armani himself, and it has a square-shaped bottle like a square-cut diamond. Name of the perfume and shape of the bottle is a real challenge for producers, designers and market, since diamonds are always attributed to women, as if they belonged only to them.

EA Diamonds for Men was created Jacques Cavallier of Firmenich. It contains gourmet-woody aromatic juicy, with an unusual gourmet reversal in the top notes. The perfume opens with sparkling, sweet aromas of bergamot, with Guaiac, vetiver, cedar, Szechuan pepper, cocoa and ambroxan.

Recently, Josh has been getting involved in movie production oustide of acting. Previously, Josh produced “August” to be released in July. Now Josh is reportedly 'executive producer' of "Nobody," a movie written by 40 Days and 40 Nights writer Rob Perez that may already be in production. It seems he wil not be acting in the film.

Worth Watching: Josh Hartnett's August Trailer

The first real trailer for Austin Chick's latest directorial effort titled August has officially debuted. The film is about the 2001 dot com bubble burst. Remember all those websites that made it big then blew up and disappeared when all of that glory fell apart in late 2001? This movie is about one of them, Tom, played by Josh Hartnett, and his website called Landshark. This film really touches too close to home, but thankfully there isn't another bubble burst in sight and Hartnett's website was much more different than this one. Either way, I was quite entertained by this trailer and definitely want to check it out. Plus it's got David Bowie, who really needs to be in more movies - he always kicks ass. Thoughts?

August first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this January. The film currently only has a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ed Douglas over at ComingSoon gave it a positive review, saying, "Despite the interminably slow pace, there's aspects of this film that stick with you despite it not being nearly as immediate as Wall Street, but the worthwhile attempts at creating realistic character dynamics and situations within a very specific era in New York is notable for sure."

August is directed by Austin Chick, of XX/XY previously, with a script written by Howard A. Rodman, of Joe Gould's Secret and Savage Grace previously. The film initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is being distributed by First Look Studios. August will arrive in limited theaters starting on July 11th this summer.
